Unanimous Vote, Historic Victory: RWDSU Local 1102 Hofstra Dining Workers Ratify Record-Breaking Contract
When members stand together, real progress happens. At Hofstra University, 120 food service workers represented by Local 1102 RWDSU/UFCW proved just that by voting unanimously to ratify a groundbreaking new three-year contract with Campus Dining Services by Compass One.
Whether they are firing up the grills, baking fresh bread, running the registers, or keeping the dining halls spotless for students and staff, cooks, bakers, cashiers, and utility staff are the heartbeat of the Hofstra campus community. Day in and day out, their hard work fuels students, faculty, and staff. Now, thanks to their unwavering unity at the bargaining table, they’ve secured a contract that honors their dedication.
Historic Wins for Local 1102 Members
The newly ratified agreement delivers immediate improvements that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of both full-time and part-time workers:
Record-Breaking Wage Increases: Secures the highest pay increases ever negotiated for this unit, putting real money back into workers' pockets to meet rising costs.
Stronger Retirement Security: Boosts 401(k) contributions so members can build a more stable financial future.
New Reporting Pay Guarantees: Ensures members are fairly compensated whenever they are scheduled or called in to work.
Expanded Union Orientation: Introduces stronger language for new hire orientations, ensuring every future worker is introduced to their union rights and protections on day one.
The unanimous vote sends a clear message: when working people unite, they win. "This great contract is a testament to what we can accomplish when we stand together as a union family. Strong contracts are never achieved by one person alone, they are the result of teamwork, unity and members standing together to fight for the wages, benefits and working conditions they deserve. I'm incredibly proud of our entire team but especially our rank-and-file negotiating committee members. At Local 1102, we will continue to fight for our members and deliver the strong contracts they deserve,” said Jack Caffey, President, Local 1102 RWDSU/UFCW
Strong contracts are never given; they are won through solidarity and active participation at the bargaining table. The victory at Hofstra University demonstrates the power of a united union family, showing that when rank-and-file members stand together, they have the leverage to deliver real, lasting gains for their workplace and community.
