Workers at The Literary, a beloved independent bookstore and cafe, located at 122 N. Neil Street in downtown Champaign, Illinois have voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionization. The victory at The Literary marks the latest chapter in a growing national wave of independent and large bookstore unionization with the RWDSU, as well as a significant win for workers in the Champaign-Urbana community.

As the union representing the overwhelming majority of Flying Food Group employees nationwide, including thousands of workers across 10 major catering facilities including locations in Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Washington, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) issued the following statement:

Day 3 of the RWDSU Convention brought laser focus to the fundamental purpose of our movement: representing our current membership with relentless dedication. Wednesday’s proceedings centered on three pillar committees – Social Justice, Collective Bargaining, and Health & Safety – demonstrating how union power operates every single day to enforce hard-won contracts, defend member rights, and ensure every shop floor is safe and equitable.

Day 2 of the 25th Convention built upon the opening day's momentum, highlighting political action and international worker solidarity. From key addresses by national labor leaders to the RWDSU officer elections and inspiring calls to action from political and civil rights leaders at home and abroad, delegates reaffirmed their commitment to worker power both on the shop floor and across the globe.
