RWDSU ENDORSES JIM MCGREEVEY FOR MAYOR OF JERSEY CITY

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) – Today, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) announced the union’s endorsement of Jim McGreevey in his campaign for Mayor of Jersey City. RWDSU members working in grocery, retail, warehousing, healthcare, manufacturing, transport, public service sectors and other industries in New Jersey will mobilize in support of McGreevey’s candidacy focusing on what matters, affordable housing, good union jobs, and building a Jersey City that works for everyone.

“Jim McGreevey has always stood shoulder to shoulder with working people. From his time as Governor to his years leading reentry support programs, he’s fought to make sure everyone has access to good jobs, fair pay, and dignity at work. McGreevey understands that working families are being squeezed by rising costs, especially housing and childcare, and he’s committed to tackling those challenges head-on. He’ll invest in services that make it possible for parents to work and raise families in the city they love. Jim McGreevey doesn’t just talk about helping working people – he’s done it, and we know he’ll continue to fight for working people as Mayor of Jersey City,” said Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).

“Jim McGreevey believes a strong Jersey City starts with a strong working class. As mayor, he’ll make sure economic growth benefits everyone – not just the wealthy few. That means good-paying jobs, reliable city services, and fair contracts that respect the people who keep Jersey City running. He knows that when city workers, retail workers, and essential workers have stability and support, the entire community benefits. He’ll work to expand access to affordable childcare, strengthen worker protections, and make Jersey City a place where families can build a future,” said Charles N. Hall Jr., President, RWDSU Local 108.

“For too long, Jersey City has worked for big real estate developers, not the people who make it run. Jim McGreevey will change that by putting workers and families first. He’ll fight for affordable housing, quality childcare, fair wages, and city budgets that invest in people instead of luxury projects. His vision is a city where no one has to choose between paying rent, feeding their kids, or caring for their loved ones. McGreevey has the experience and the values to build a fairer economy, one that truly works for working people,” said Daniel Righetti, President of RWDSU Local 262.

“I’m honored to have the support of the RWDSU and its hardworking members. From grocery stores and processing facilities to warehouses and retail shops, and throughout our neighborhoods in nursing homes and in our public and transport services, RWDSU members keep our communities running and our economy strong. The RWDSU has always fought for fairness, dignity, and better lives for working people and that’s exactly the kind of city I want to build. Together, we’ll make Jersey City a place where every worker is respected, protected, and given a real chance to thrive,” said Jim McGreevey, candidate for Mayor of Jersey City.
