Local 1102 Members Kick Off School Year with Strength and Solidarity

As September began, RWDSU Local 1102 members working in food service returned from a well-deserved summer break to greet students heading back to classrooms across districts, high schools, and universities. To mark the start of the new academic year, Local 1102 hosted Welcome Back Meetings with members on campuses. These gatherings provided an important space to reconnect, share updates, and highlight the essential work members do each day. They also offered the opportunity to review new benefits, answer questions, and ensure the year began on a strong note.

“We are so proud of our members who work at our schools and universities,” said Jack Caffey, President of Local 1102. “The work they do is so important for the students and faculty and our communities.”

Every day, Local 1102 members prepare meals, serve with care, and make sure that students are nourished and ready to learn. Their work ensures that scholars have the foundation they need to focus, grow, and succeed in the classroom.

Secretary-Treasurer Roger Grobstich added, “We love being with the members of the local and working with them to build a stronger union. It’s what it’s all about.”

The Welcome Back Meetings served as an important reminder of the vital role RWDSU Local 1102 members play in supporting students and communities. As the new school year begins, Local 1102 members are moving forward stronger than ever – demonstrating once again that when workers stand united, they can accomplish great things.
