Local 338 RWDSU Stop and Shop Contract Victory!

Members of Local 338 RWDSU overwhelmingly ratified a new five-year collective bargaining agreement that strengthens and safeguards what matters most to the 2,400 members working for one of the largest grocery chains in the Northeast.

The new agreement with Stop and Shop protects members’ healthcare, dental, vision, and supplemental benefits through increased employer contributions, with no added costs to members. It strengthens retirement security by maintaining and expanding employer-funded contributions to annuity and pension programs. Members will also see meaningful wage increases across all classifications, including higher minimum rates for full-time employees.

In addition to economic gains, the agreement includes stronger workplace protections from improved safeguards for cash handling, to new language ensuring the union is consulted before any technological or AI-related changes that could affect members’ jobs. Clearer emergency safety procedures further ensure that members’ well-being remains a top priority.

These victories didn’t come easy, they were the result of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Throughout negotiations, committee members alternately attended every session, giving up their personal time to represent their coworkers. During the final session, the team stayed at the table until midnight to secure the best possible deal. Their commitment and persistence made all the difference!

“The most important gain was that we didn’t lose anything — and the increases were substantial,” said bargaining committee member Paul Dickerson from the East Northport store. “Being in a union means having security and knowing there’s always someone there to support you if you have concerns.”

For Joanne Burger, who works at the Huntington Village store, the negotiation process was an invaluable learning experience. “It taught me how proposals work, how to negotiate, and the ratification process,” Joanne shared.

Together, Local 338 members proved once again that when we stand together, we win together.
