RWDSU ENDORSES TOM DINAPOLI FOR RE-ELECTION AS NEW YORK STATE COMPTROLLER

(NEW YORK, NY) –  The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) today announced its endorsement of New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli for re-election, citing his longstanding commitment to working people, strong oversight of public funds, and leadership in holding corporations accountable to workers and taxpayers. The RWDSU’s members who live and work across New York state will begin their work in support of DiNapoli’s campaign spreading the word among fellow members who work in grocery and non-food retail, department stores, pharmaceutical and recreational cannabis, food service and production, building maintenance, healthcare, at area airports, in warehousing and distribution and other industries in the state.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) issued the following statement on the endorsement: “At a moment when workers are organizing for better pay and safer workplaces while corporations are crying poor and cutting corners, it matters who’s watching over New York’s finances – and there’s only one person we trust in this election to do that – Tom DiNapoli. He has consistently used the power of the Comptroller’s office to stand up for workers, from holding corporations accountable through the state’s pension fund to showing up with us on picket lines and at rallies. He didn’t hesitate to challenge Amazon on its labor and racial justice practices, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with our members at Mott’s in Williamson, and has pushed for transparency and fairness in state procurement across our retailers and supported us in bargaining. Tom understands that a strong economy starts with strong workers, and he’s proven time and again that he’s willing to take on the toughest fights. That’s why RWDSU is proud to give him our full support.”

“I’m deeply honored to earn the endorsement of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union,” said New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. “RWDSU stands for dignity, fairness, and real economic opportunity for working people, values that have never been more important. RWDSU members are the backbone of New York’s economy, keeping our stores stocked, our supply chains moving, and our communities strong. As Comptroller, I’ve believed that safeguarding public funds goes hand in hand with standing up for working people. That means using the state’s pension fund to demand responsible corporate behavior, fighting for transparency and fairness, and showing up alongside workers when they take on powerful interests. I’m proud to stand with RWDSU and grateful for their partnership as we continue building an economy that works for working families across New York.”
