STATEMENT ON UNVERIFIED AIRLINE CATERING HEALTH & SAFETY CLAIMS AT FLYING FOOD GROUP
(NEW YORK, NY) – Today, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) issued a statement to provide essential context regarding recent national media reports and an unverified regulatory complaint focused on a single Los Angeles-area Flying Foods facility.
As the union representing the overwhelming majority of Flying Food Group employees nationwide, including thousands of workers across 10 major catering facilities including locations in Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Washington, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) issued the following statement:
“We want to be unequivocally clear: these claims do not reflect the reality of our union-represented facilities, which comprise the overwhelming majority of the company’s locations and workforce, nor do they represent the standard of work delivered by the thousands of workers we represent.
“Misleading public reports directly jeopardize the jobs and financial stability of the hard-working people we represent across the country at airports from New York to Hawaii and many in between. Our members may face potential completely unnecessary job losses over these allegations that do not align with the daily reality inside our facilities.
“Flying Food Group’s workforce takes tremendous pride in maintaining rigorous health, safety, and cleanliness standards. Every day, our members prepare and deliver high-quality meals for major international airlines with meticulous pride and care.
“While public attention has disproportionately focused on isolated allegations at a single facility, we want to ensure the public has an accurate picture of operations nationwide. We stand firmly behind our workforce, the high standards of our facilities, and the integrity of the work our members perform every day.”
