Local 1102 Stewards Trainings Aim at Building A Stronger Union
Local 1102 ran two successful shop stewards trainings at the RWDSU HQ in NYC recently. The first day was dedicated to new stewards throughout the local. Among the participants were also some of the local’s newest members who recently won the very first in the nation union contracts at Barnes and Noble locations including the Flagship in Manhattan. The second day was devoted to more experienced stewards and focused on sharpening existing skills. Some 70 stewards participated in the trainings.
“Our stewards are the front line of our efforts to build strength for our union,” said Local 1102 President Jack Caffey. “It is their commitment and dedication that breathes life into our hard won contract gains.”
RWDSU National Field Director Jason Ware and Deputy Field Director Rhonda Richards conducted both sessions with the help and support from the Local 1102 field staff. 1102 members work in a wide variety of industries including retail, food service and airline catering. The training aimed to give stewards the tools they need to enforce contract provisions and better represent members regardless of where members work or the jobs they do.
“We believe in the great work our stewards do and we will always be here to support them as they build strength for the union,” said Local 1102 Secretary-Treasurer Roger Grobstich.
