RWDSU Local 338 Solidarity in Action: Stamping Out Hunger in Our Community
On Saturday, May 10, union members across the country came together for the Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, the nation’s largest single-day food collection effort. Led by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the campaign once again demonstrated the power of collective action—and RWDSU Local 338 was proud to be part of it.
With food insecurity impacting millions of families, this year’s drive was more important than ever. Community and union members were encouraged to leave bags of non-perishable food items by their mailboxes from local union supermarkets, and letter carriers picked up donations along their routes. Those donations were then delivered to local food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters to help feed families in need.
Members of RWDSU Local 338 showed up in force to support the effort. From staffing collection sites to sorting and distributing donations, union volunteers worked side by side with NALC members and community organizations to make the day a success.
“Our members understand that solidarity doesn’t stop at the job site,” said John R. Durso, President of RWDSU Local 338. “When our neighbors are hurting, we show up. We believe in standing together—whether we’re fighting for workers’ rights or fighting hunger in our community.”
Thanks to the efforts of RWDSU Local 338 members, postal workers, volunteers, and generous community members, thousands of pounds of food were collected across the region. The energy and compassion on display reminded everyone that unions are more than just workplace advocates—they are pillars of the community.
While Stamp Out Hunger happens once a year, the need persists. Our union remains committed to supporting food justice and community aid efforts all year long.
Together, we proved that when working people unite, we can do more than deliver change—we can deliver hope.
