Local 1102 Invests in the Next Generation Through Scholarships

Local 1102 has long stood for improving the lives of its members on the job and in their communities. That commitment was on full display this year as the union celebrated the achievements of its Paulette Fialkoff-Amodeo Scholarship recipients. These awards highlight not only the hard work and aspirations of Local 1102 members and their families but also the union’s belief in investing in the future.

Thanks to the newly established Local 1102 Charitable Trust Fund, scholarship awards reached new heights this year, allowing the union to provide even greater support for students pursuing their education. Local 1102 is especially proud to recognize its top scholarship recipient, Claudine Alexandre from Flying Food Group, whose determination and commitment stood out among a strong field of applicants.

For Local 1102, scholarships are about more than financial assistance. They are a testament to the union’s role in building brighter futures and ensuring that the values of solidarity, fairness, and opportunity extend beyond the workplace. By supporting education, Local 1102 helps members and their families access opportunities that can transform their lives, strengthen communities, and carry forward the fight for dignity and justice.

“Unions don’t just negotiate contracts—we help shape the future,” said Jack Caffey, President of RWDSU Local 1102. “By investing in our members’ families and their education, we are making sure the next generation has the tools to succeed.”

The Paulette Fialkoff-Amodeo Scholarship is one way Local 1102 continues to demonstrate that the labor movement is about more than wages and benefits—it’s about creating lasting opportunities that uplift entire families and communities.
