We Are the Many: May Day in the Heart of NYC

Thousands unite in Lower Manhattan to demand justice, dignity, and a future that puts working people first

On Thursday, May 1, International Workers’ Day, working people around the globe commemorated May Day by taking action. In New York City, RWDSU members from across our local unions marched with tens of thousands in Lower Manhattan to send a message to the billionaires who are threatening our rights and freedoms.

President Trump and Elon Musk have waged a ruthless assault on working people—slashing thousands of union jobs, tearing up hard-won union contracts, gutting essential services, and attacking our fundamental freedom to organize for a better life. This year was especially important during a time of staggering income inequality and growing inflation

In New York City’s Foley Square, just outside Federal Plaza, union members, workers, immigrants, tenants, parents, students, and neighbors from all five boroughs united in a powerful show of solidarity—part of a nationwide day of action demanding real investment in working people, not handouts for billionaires. Voices from federal workers, immigrant leaders, healthcare and civil rights advocates, and Congressmember Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez electrified the crowd, sending our message of – We Are the Many. They Are the Few – echoing through the square and into the streets.

After the rally, thousands flooded Broadway, transforming the streets of Lower Manhattan into a powerful, joyful march for justice. Catch the livestream of the rally here and explore more photos from the rally and march here.
