Protecting Time and Seniority
The new agreement introduces language designed to give workers more control over their schedules and more respect for their time:
Four-Hour Call-In Guarantee: New language ensures that any worker called into the facility is guaranteed a minimum of four hours of pay, protecting staff from being brought in for short, inefficient shifts.
Seniority-Based Scheduling: The contract features improved language for shift preferences, ensuring that seniority is the primary factor when workers request specific hours.
Stronger Economic Gains and Benefits
The three-year contract also focuses on elevating the standard of living for all employees at the facility. Key financial highlights include:
Annual Pay Increases: The contract guarantees yearly wage increases for the entire membership.
Elevated Base Pay: Starting pay rates have been increased across every job classification, ensuring the facility remains competitive and rewards incoming staff.
Shift Differentials: Workers on evening and overnight shifts will see an increase in their shift differentials, acknowledging the demands of around-the-clock care.
Health Insurance Relief: In a major win for take-home pay, the agreement includes improved cost-sharing for health insurance premiums.
Holiday Pay for Part-Time Staff: The contract successfully extends holiday pay to part-time workers, ensuring fairer treatment for the entire bargaining unit.
Strength Through Unity
The ratification of this agreement is a testament to the unity of RWDSU Local 139 members at Valley View Manor. By pushing for these specific improvements, the members have secured a contract that recognizes their value and protects their future.
