RWDSU STATEMENT ON BLOOMBERG $10 MILLION DONATION TO SUPER PAC IN NY-12 RACE

(NEW YORK, NY) – Today, in the face of a last-minute attempt to buy the election out from under working New Yorkers and organized labor, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) is reiterating its support for Assemblymember Alex Bores, who is bringing together the broadest coalition in NY-12 to take on the AI oligarchs and ensure this transformative technology works for people, not the powerful.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) issued the following statement: “It’s an assault on our democracy when billionaires like Mike Bloomberg try to buy an election with a check for 10 million dollars. This contribution is outrageous and shameful and must be condemned. America must not become a country of billionaires, by billionaires and for billionaires.”

Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg is the single largest donor in the race, contributing a staggering $10 million to a super PAC backing Bloomberg’s former aide, Micah Lasher. This is the same Michael Bloomberg who tried to gut pension and healthcare benefits for city workers, took a hardline stance against labor strikes, and continually vilified unionization efforts. And now, he’s spending $10 million dollars supporting his hand-picked candidate.
